HOUSE IN THE RICE FIELD

This house, in a rural location, explores the forms that modern architectural sensibilities can take in a rural South Indian setting. Light, space, and expansiveness, with views of the rice fields, and indoor and outdoor green spaces are prioritized, and an exposed concrete shear wall dominates the architecture as a visual expression of the structure. Sunshades integrated into the façade, green roofs, sustainable water management principles and easily available local materials complete the picture. A temple in the middle of the shear wall acts as a central node, splitting the double height living spaces in half and anchoring the building to more traditional modes of living.
