HOUSE WITH A THINNAI

Located amidst rice fields with beautiful rural vistas on all sides, this project pioneers sustainable living by integrating traditional Chettinad architecture with eco-friendly design. The residence features a wrap-around veranda and a central courtyard, inspired by the region's architectural heritage, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces while protecting from the harsh sun. The house is enveloped by a Thinnai, a traditional veranda that wraps around the entire structure, inviting a continuous flow of air and light while creating an inviting space for social interactions and relaxation.

Surrounded by bioswales, ponds, Miyawaki forests, food forests, vegetable gardens, and pollinator parks, the home sits at the heart of a balanced ecological system. These elements, carefully integrated with the architecture, foster biodiversity and create an environment where humans, animals, plants, and insects coexist harmoniously, embodying a sustainable and culturally rich living space.
