This low-budget renovation for Abacus Montessori School in Chennai consists of the creation of an office space from two existing classrooms. The aim of the new office design was to integrate all functions in one space while also providing visitors with a sense of entry into the school.

The sense of entry is created by means of a brick arch leading into a verandah that acts as an intermediary waiting space.

Materials used are easily available locally in keeping with the existing aesthetic of the school (originally designed by the late renowned architect, Laurie Baker).

The renovation is completely integrated with the existing building such that visitors are not aware that the arch and office have been recently created in that space.
