This project is a response to Chennai’s evolving climate realities, where water takes center stage. A key feature is greywater reuse through phytoremediation, supported by a multi-functional pond that serves as a rainwater catchment, irrigation source, and biodiverse habitat. Green roofs provide insulation while enabling urban farming, and bio-retention planters enhance stormwater management. Even the flooring design, crafted from stone and cement, draws inspiration from the meandering Adyar River, reinforcing the home’s connection to its natural surroundings.
All paved areas are designed to be permeable, reducing the heat island effect while directing runoff into the pond and recharge pits to replenish groundwater. Thoughtfully designed timber-framed tile-roofed sit-outs further blur the boundary between built and natural environments, offering shaded spaces that embrace the landscape.
